We reviewed and then had a quiz on the following key scripture passages: 1 Nephi 3:7, 1 Nephi 19:23, 2 Nephi 2:25, 2 Nephi 2:27, and 2 Nephi 9:28-29. Tomorrow we’ll have our final scripture mastery review and quiz. Prizes will be awarded later in the week for the top scores!
We focused our discussion today on two letters written from Mormon to his son Moroni. These letters illustrate some of the challenges that Moroni faced as a spiritual leader of his people. The first letter, Moroni 8, addresses the practice of infant baptism. We discussed the doctrine of accountability and searched for the revelation in the Doctrine & Covenants that reveals in our dispensation the age of accountability. Annie Smith explained how she would talk to a friend who had lost a younger sibling to help them understand the doctrine of Christ.
We also discussed the depravity of the Lamanites and Nephites described in Moroni 9 and how we can become desensitized to sin by our choices. Even in the midst of such utter depravity, however, Mormon’s answer to Moroni is Jesus Christ: “My son, be faithful in Christ; and may not the things which I have written grieve thee, to weigh thee down unto death; but may Christ lift thee up.. and the hope of his glory and of eternal life, rest in your mind forever.”
